![]() ![]() In other words: “Experience the world of Stranger Things from the never-before-seen perspective of Vecna as he explores unknown realities, forms the hive mind, and enacts his plan for revenge against Eleven and Hawkins.” Vecna? Upside-Down? Unknown realities? VR? Count us in, Tender Claws. With outlandish powers that let you invade the minds of others and extract their memories and abilities, you will set out and plot your revenge against both Eleven and the unknowing citizens of Hawkins. As Vecna, or Henry Creel, you will be tasked with constructing the Hive Mind-a collective consciousness dominated by an all-seeing evil. Just to echo, Stranger Things VR will take place across both the Upside-Down, and the town of Hawkins, and will serve as a prequel to the events of Stranger Things 4. In the former, users will experience the events that took form prior to Henry Creel’s transformation into Vecna and the Hive Mind, whereas the present will accommodate a timeline that lets you plunge into the minds of Hawkins’ most iconic characters. Going by what’s been shown to date, Stranger Things VR will be split between two timelines - the past, and the present. As players, you will be tasked with delving deep inside the minds of the people of Hawkins, and with your power to extract and preserve core memories, plot your revenge against Eleven and those who fall under her wing. So, what is this VR adaptation of the beloved Netflix series, and how will it compare to the mobile iteration that rolled out just a couple of years back? Well, to put you in the picture, Stranger Things VR is a (you guessed it) psychological horror virtual reality game set in the Upside-Down - from Vecna’s perspective, of all people. Stranger Things VR: just what is it, and how will it tie in with the kids over in Hawkins? Let’s talk. Tidy.Īnyway, with the news well and truly out in the open, what more is there to tell ahead of the game’s launch? Well, if you’re even the slightest bit interested in Netflix’s powerhouse poster child, then be sure to read on. Stranger Things is almost like a messy concoction of many fine ingredients, with the main theme being sci-fi and thriller, with a strong dose of mystery and some horror, ultimately giving tribute to legends like H.P Lovecraft, Steven Spielberg and Stephen king.Just when I thought I had finally managed to nudge Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” to the Upside-Down of my subconscious mind, the Meta Quest Showcase only went and happened - once again adding another layer to the ever-popular world of Stranger Things. Only this time, it’s a VR game, and going by the details left out to dry by Zuckerberg and crew, it’ll be heading to Meta Quest 2 and “all major VR platforms” later this year. So while Stranger Things is a good show which deserves to be successful, its hype is overblown by gargantuan proportions. ![]() It is not until the fourth season that we get any sort of redemption, because season 4 is simply awesome. ![]() The second season is whatever and the third season outright sucks. In fact, the first season is brilliant, but after that it just messes up bad. And if you want to say that Stranger Things is all about the power of that sweet friendship, love and courage then sorry to say, but you have other movies like Lord Of The Rings which do that a lot better.įurthermore, a big chunk of the show seems to survive on 80s nostalgia, with all its American pop culture references, and for that part of the audience which was neither born in the 80s, nor is American, such a crucial aspect of the show is going to make little difference.Īgain, it is not that Stranger Things is a bad show, it is actually pretty good. Probably the biggest problem here is that the entire show seems to ride on Eleven’s powers. There is some Lovecraftian monster who appears from a parallel universe into the town of Hawkins, because a gate between the two dimensions exists there.Īll this happens whilst teenage kids fight the monsters, and one of them has psychic powers, and ultimately they all survive the horror through the power of friendship, or whatever. Most of the time, Stranger things has the same plot. While definitely a good show, it simply does not meet its reputation as being ‘one of the greatest horror/mystery shows of all time’. There are many shows out there which do not meet their online hype, but the one show which is one of the biggest victims of being overhyped and ultimately being overrated is Stranger Things. ![]()
